Heavy rains trigger flooding, road damage across Bohol

The persistent rains also triggered a landslide along a road in Barangay Del Pilar, Pilar town. (LIR) Dat-an–Carmen–Sierra Bullones–Pilar–Alicia Road, particularly near the Malinao Dam in Pilar, is open only to light vehicles. Authorities said intense rainfall caused water to overflow through the ongoing National Irrigation Authority (NIA) Spillway Project, which crosses the national road. The overflow caused significant road scouring and damaged the temporary detour, making the area unsafe for heavy vehicles. Motorists driving trucks and other large vehicles were advised to use alternate routes until further notice. Bohol Governor Erico Aristotle Aumentado said the provincial government had mobilized concerned agencies and coordinated with Pilar Mayor Wilson Pajo to carry out necessary response measures. He assured residents that the provincial government would continue providing assistance to keep affected communities safe. Meanwhile, in Candijay town, personnel of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) conducted an immediate assessment after a perimeter fence collapsed in Purok 4, Barangay Cogtong due to continuous rainfall and soil erosion. Candijay MDRRMO head Jeryl Lacang-Fuentes urged residents to stay away from unstable slopes and damaged structures, especially during periods of prolonged rainfall, warning that saturated soil increases the risk of landslides and structural collapse.
