Heartbreaking moment Strictly’s Amy Dowden breaks down in tears & reveals fears she ‘can’t have children’ after cancer

STRICTLY Come Dancing’s Amy Dowden has broken down in tears and revealed her fears she “can’t have children” following her cancer battle. The dancer, 35, made the revelation on the current series of Celebrity Hunted, in which she’s starring alongside her Strictly co-star and pal Carlos Gu. However, things soon get too much for Amy as she breaks down in tears while she and Carlos share a heart to heart with one another in the garden. Sign up for the TV newsletter Thank you! She expresses: “Obviously I’ve always wanted the honour of being a mum and obviously I don’t know if that’s going to be possible.” Speaking directly to camera in her interview, Amy says: “A cancer diagnosis changes your life forever. “I just got married, I had my whole life ahead of me and all of a sudden, my world fell apart right in front of me. “But I’ve been given another shot at life and I want to embrace it and take every opportunity that comes my way.” The BBC one star was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer at the age of 32 in May 2023. She underwent a gruelling battle which included a mastectomy, chemotherapy and subsequent preventative surgery. Despite this, she still has to go to the hospital for regular check-ups, monthly injections, scans and follow-up treatments as part of her five-year recovery plan. Amy and her husband Ben Jones froze five embryos before she began her cancer treatment. Her doctors advised her to wait at least two years post-treatment, as the risk of cancer returning is higher during that window of time. The pregnancy hormones could put her at higher risk of the cancer coming back, making it too dangerous for the time being. Her cancer treatments and anti-oestrogen medications put her body into an induced early menopause. Amy previously opened up about “desperately” wanting to become a mum as she shared a health update. Amy and her husband Ben Jones froze her eggs before her cancer treatment Credit: Getty She’s previously been open about her desire to become a mother Credit: PA Appearing on Channel 4’s Stand Up to Cancer event in December, she admitted: “A cancer diagnosis changes you forever, I still receive monthly injections from the oncology unit, I’ve been put into menopause because of my hormone-fed cancer. “I don’t know if I’ll ever have the honour of becoming a mum which I desperately want to.” The brave star continued: “With changes in my breast, five weeks ago I had another mastectomy. “So I’m no longer emotionally attached to my body but I am so proud of how far it’s come.” “I’m so grateful for another shot at life, to be able get back on the dance floor… “I’m so grateful for my medical team, the doctors and nurses who have kept me alive. “But a cancer diagnosis changes you forever, I’m no longer the person I was and that’s not by choice.” Celebrity Hunted continues tonight at 9pm on Channel 4 Comment now
