The unthinkable tragedy has rocked the town, with police saying the scene was one of the most horrific they had ever encountered. Heartbreaking 911 dispatch audio, obtained by The U.S. Sun, reveals emergency responders were initially dispatched to the residence around 5:42 pm on Thursday, August 6. A female operator is heard directing units to stage nearby for “a possible stabbing.” Mandan Fire Department crews coordinated their approach before dispatch issued a grim update, ordering all responding units to proceed directly to the residence “for three children with cuts to their throats.” One engine radioed in its initial assessment of the first child found, reporting, “We have lacerations… full front lacerations on the first kid, probably 1 to 2 years old, still breathing.” Moments later, an officer updated dispatch on the full scope of the tragedy unfolding outside, revealing, “We have three infants, all with bad neck lacerations, out on the street, all still currently breathing at this time.” Most read in The Sun Recognizing the extreme severity of the injuries, crews frantically requested air medical transport and additional fire personnel while scrambling to arrange emergency care. Desperate to ensure the hospital was prepared for the incoming victims, a responder radioed dispatch, “Tell them that we have trauma… we need trauma surgeons. Just call them and tell them that. I don’t have time to call.” Dispatch confirmed they would handle the alert, while officers rode alongside the victims in the emergency rigs to help maintain life support on the journey to the hospital. The scale of the emergency was so vast that local crews were pulled from their stations, prompting off-duty EMTs to be called in to ensure Mandan still had enough personnel to respond to other 911 calls. Cops say Erhart’s daughters died after the stabbings, while her son survived after having surgery. Family told The U.S. Sun on Monday that he is expected to make a full recovery but declined to comment further on the tragedy. According to court records and investigative affidavits, Erhart confronted her husband and the children’s paternal grandmother inside the home while holding one of her children and brandishing a handgun. The attack happened inside Erhart’s single-wide mobile home in Mandan, North Dakota Credit: KFYR The accused killer is seen during an early court appearance in North Dakota following her children’s deaths Credit: KFYR She allegedly told the father, “Say goodbye to your kids.” He told police he managed to disarm her and disassemble the firearm, but Erhart allegedly then grabbed a kitchen knife, forced the adults out of the home and locked the doors. Investigators later reportedly found video on the father’s phone that captured part of the terrifying confrontation. The affidavit also details previous concerns over Erhart’s behavior, with her husband reportedly warning authorities that she had threatened to harm herself and the children. Those concerns allegedly led to her admission to a mental health facility within the previous 12 to 18 months. She was later discharged on medication and allowed to be around her kids, while Child Protective Services was allegedly aware of the previous threats. After the attack, cops reportedly found Erhart in the kitchen covered in blood and holding a knife to her own throat. She allegedly dropped the weapon before begging officers to kill her. Erhart later reportedly told investigators she had put the children to bed and believed their throats had already been cut. She claimed she could not remember what happened, but acknowledged she had been holding the knife when officers arrived, according to the affidavit. Mandan Police Chief Jason Ziegler said the horrific scene would likely stay with the officers who responded. “A scene like that is something that nobody should ever have to see, and the way [the officers] came through in one of the most horrific times that they’ll probably experience in their life. I’m proud,” Ziegler said during a press conference Friday. He also acknowledged the devastating impact on the children’s family and others who were at the scene. Her bio included the phrase, “Life’s a dance you learn as you go,” followed by a reference to 1 John 1:9. The Bible verse reads, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” Erhart is facing nine criminal charges, including Class AA felony murder, attempted murder and aggravated assault. Her bond was set at $3 million cash, with a judge citing the “extreme violence” alleged in the charges and the threat to the community, victims and children. She has not yet entered a plea and is due back in court for a preliminary hearing and arraignment on October 6. A GoFundMe launched by the children’s paternal grandmother has raised more than $30,000 as the devastated family grieves the loss of Erhart’s two kids and prepares for their funerals.
