The Volvo FH 540 had been turning onto the GO-060 highway while the boy had been making his way home from school. Several carriages of the massive truck wheeled past the child until a protruding hook snagged the youngster and sent him flying beneath the wheels. His body appeared to have been dragged along the tarmac in the remarkable CCTV footage. Miraculously, the youngster can be seen in CCTV standing up and walking away. The driver did not stop at the scene. Staff from a nearby chemist raced to the scene and gave the boy first aid. He will undergo surgery after being transported to the Goias State Emergency Hospital Dr Valdemiro Cruz (Hugol) in Goiania. The driver reportedly only found out about the crash when a friend sent him a video of the collision. He contacted the Military Police and explained that he drove off because he had no idea that he had hit anyone. The child had been standing in a blind spot behind his mirror, he said. Once he found out what had happened, the truck driver asked police for the contact details of the mother. He said he would support the family and offered to meet the costs of the boy’s medical treatment. The police are investigating the incident. Comment now
