‘Healthy Kunnamangalam’ to map health, social welfare needs of residents

Image for representational purposes only A year-long initiative to identify and address the health and social welfare needs of residents through ward-level data collection and targeted interventions is being planned in the Kunnamangalam Assembly constituency under the ‘Healthy Kunnamangalam’ project led by M.A. Razak, MLA.The project will be implemented in collaboration with six local self-government institutions in the constituency. It seeks to identify the actual needs of residents in areas such as disability support, senior citizen welfare, lifestyle diseases, sanitation and education, and to formulate interventions based on the findings.“The project envisages a year-long process covering data collection, consolidation, project formulation, implementation and monitoring,” says Mr. Razak. Its objective is to ensure that interventions across the constituency are designed around documented needs and deliver more effective support to residents, he adds.A planning meeting for the project has already been held to ensure phased implementation. The first phase will involve meetings at the panchayat level, followed by the formation of ward-level teams. The teams will identify persons with disabilities across different categories and assess their concerns, compile detailed information on senior citizens, and organise screening camps to detect lifestyle diseases before they reach an advanced stage.Trained National Service Scheme volunteers will undertake digital data collection under the supervision of the District Collector and the District Medical Officer. The information gathered will be consolidated into a comprehensive digital dashboard to facilitate the assessment of needs and the planning of interventions at the constituency level. In the next phase, the governing bodies, officials and planning committees of the local self-government institutions will assess the issues identified through the survey and formulate projects to address them. Steps will subsequently be taken to implement the proposed interventions and monitor their progress. Published - October 09, 2026 08:11 pm IST
