Health Ministry reviews projects in Jipmer

Vijay Nehra, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare visited the site at Sedarapet earmarked for establishing Jipmer’s organ transplant-cum-trauma centre. | Photo Credit: Special Arrangement The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare conducted a review of major projects undertaken by the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, including its ambitious plan for the establishment of centres for organ transplantation and trauma care at a cost of around ₹1,000 crore in Puducherry.As part of the Ministry’s involvement in augmenting healthcare facilities at the hospital, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Vijay Nehra recently visited the Jipmer campus to carry out a detailed review of the institute’s ongoing and upcoming projects.A release from Jipmer said a meeting was held at the campus to review upcoming development projects, hospital functioning and ongoing infrastructure works. The discussions covered the progress of ongoing development projects, expansion of healthcare infrastructure, strengthening of clinical services, future institutional requirements and measures to further enhance Jipmer’s capacity to provide advanced patient care, the release said. Besides holding a review meeting and inspecting facilities on the Jipmer campus, Mr. Nehra visited the 51-acre site at Sedarapet earmarked for establishing the organ transplantation and trauma care centres. Director of Jipmer Vir Singh Negi and senior faculty members were part of the deliberations, the release said.Projects at SedarapetThe Centre for Trauma Care and Rehabilitation with an air ambulance facility, with an estimated investment of ₹425 crore, will be developed on around 25.4 acres. The facility is planned with a capacity of 250 beds, including intensive care units, high-dependency units, dedicated trauma bays, emergency observation wards, rehabilitation services, and 10 advanced operation theatres.The Centre for Organ Transplantation with a capital outlay of ₹550 crore is envisioned as a comprehensive regional hub for organ, tissue transplantation, and transplant sciences. The facility will have a planned capacity of 400 beds, including specialised transplant wards, intensive care units, high-dependency units, advanced diagnostic facilities, and 14 operation theatres.
