HDR Support Coming For Qualcomm MSM Driver To Benefit Snapdragon X Laptops On Linux

For those making use of Qualcomm Snapdragon X laptops on Linux, one of the features coming to the MSM DRM kernel driver is static HDR support for DisplayPort outputs and eDP panels. Joining with other open-source Linux graphics/display drivers offering HDR support, the MSM driver is seeing patches to enable static HDR support focused on HDR10 and BT.2020 RGB signalling. The patches currently do not provide dynamic HDR or tone mapping support. The patch series, which were authored with the help of LLM coding assistance, are currently under review. These static HDR patches have been successfully tested on a Snapdragon X1 Elite powered Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x laptop. Those interested in this DP/eDP static HDR support for Qualcomm hardware can find the current patches via the dri-devel mailing list.
