Harry Potter is one of the biggest movie franchises of all time, with Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint leading eight movies as Harry, Hermione, and Ron from 2001's Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone to 2011's Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2. Now, 15 years after the last movie in the franchise was released, HBO is rebooting Harry Potter as a TV show with a new cast taking over the classic roles. Season 1 has been titled after the first book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, and it just got another look before its December 25 debut. On Instagram, HBO has shared an official poster for the Harry Potter reboot series. The new poster comes with a close-up of Dominic McLaughlin's Harry Potter, bringing the franchise's famous description for the character, "The Boy Who Lived." Harry's signature round glasses and his prominent scar from surviving an early encounter with Voldemort are on full display in the poster. This new look at HBO's Harry Potter series also features Hogwarts, which is reflected in the young wizard's glasses, allowing fans of the franchise to compare it to how Hogwarts was portrayed in the Radcliffe-led Harry Potter movie franchise. After all, recently, on October 27, HBO announced the casting of Harry's parents in the upcoming HBO fantasy series. James Potter will be played by Jasper Talbot (Broadchurch), while Lily Potter will be portrayed by Hannah Chinn (The Conjuring: Last Rites). The casting announcement also included a character connected to Ron, with The Last Kingdom's Harry Gilby playing Charlie Weasley, Ron's older brother, who was excluded from the movies. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone will tell the story of the first book in J. K. Rowling's hit franchise over eight episodes. As such, it will clock in at a much longer runtime than the first movie in the fantasy franchise, as Radcliffe's Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone clocked in at roughly two and a half hours. That is why characters like Charlie Weasley and Peter Serafinowicz's Peeves, who were not in the movies, will show up in HBO's Harry Potter series. Ahead of season 1's debut, the magic show's future has already been confirmed. In May, HBO renewed Harry Potter for season 2, which will be titled after the second book in the franchise, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. In fact, the casting process for the new episodes has led to a major reveal. Harry Potter season 2 will include Game of Thrones' Jon Snow star Kit Harington as Gilderoy Lockhart, Hogwarts' new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher. The actor voiced the character in the Audible Exclusive Harry Potter: The Full-Cast Audio Editions. Harington replaced Superman's Lex Luthor star Nicholas Hoult, who left due to scheduling conflicts. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone starts a new chapter for the franchise in December.
