This news comes after HBO Max CEO Casey Bloys was asked by Deadline if other Game of Thrones spin-offs were on the cards. "You mean in addition to the Emmy-nominated Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which is coming out in the first half of '27? And House of the Dragon?" he replied. "Besides that, no, nothing else." A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms Is On Track For Its "Linklater Method" Approach, So Far Showrunner Ira Parker made his plans clear in an interview with Variety in January, explaining that he wants Egg actor Dexter Sol Ansell to grow with the character. "He's supposed to get older," he said. "Hopefully, it's not all based on him having a cute, high voice. We understand how important that is right now, but hopefully he will develop and the characters will develop, and it will still be a lot of fun." Parker's exact plan is a little more ambitious. He's aiming for annual seasons for roughly 4–5 years featuring "Egg the boy," a ten-year hiatus, a few more seasons with "Egg the prince," and then a 5-10 year hiatus, concluding with Egg "at the end of his life." So far, so good. While it used to be par for the course pre-streaming for shows to release seasons each year, hardly something warranting a news story, that's become less and less commonplace. However, a recent study by Luminate found that long gaps between seasons lead to "audience shrinkage", so it's hardly surprising that many productions are embracing a more traditional model. Game of Thrones does deserve some leeway, however. The high production value, especially for shows with sprawling battles and CGI dragons, like House of the Dragon, makes it especially difficult to release new episodes every year. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is unique in that it has far less extravagant effects, and is much shorter, running for only six episodes. So Parker may get his wish: a show that ages alongside its actors. That’s especially important for a character like Egg, who could otherwise run into the same problem as the Stranger Things cast, where long gaps between seasons see its once-child actors visibly age out of the teenagers they’re supposed to be playing.
