Kane admitted his mind has been blown by his own achievement, which feels “surreal” given his 61 strikes for Bayern is 20 more than his best-ever campaign with old club Tottenham. The 33-year-old told TNT: “Seventy-three goals is just a crazy number. “If I was young and I was watching someone do that, I’d be like, “oh, my God”. “I grew up watching Messi and (Cristiano) Ronaldo every night, dominating, dominating. “Obviously, Messi is the only one to score more (with) 82. “In some of the other seasons, Ronaldo’s highest was 69 – these are numbers that I just thought were just very silly, which they are. “They are the greatest of our generation for sure and arguably of all-time. Most read in Sport “Seventy-three goals, even for me – I’m pretty amazed by that.” Kane was ultra prolific at Spurs, becoming the North Londoners’ record scorer with 280 goals in 435 appearances, including two campaigns where he netted 30 in the Premier League. But his net-busting exploits have reached another level in Bayern, whom he joined from Spurs in 2023, where he is now on 148 goals in 151 games. Though, ironically, he is yet to get off the mark in two Bundesliga games so far this term – a relative drought for the super striker. Speaking to ex-Bayern midfielder Owen Hargreaves, Kane continued: “It’s hard to process how many goals I’ve scored this year. “Even my 31 goals for Spurs, 28 goals were great seasons. But then to almost double that it’s pretty surreal to see. “Sometimes, I’d watch Bayern Munich play or Real Madrid play or these other big teams play and be like if, ‘I was there, I’d score 40 goals or 50 goals’. “When the decision came to leave, that was a big part of it. It wasn’t just to win trophies. It was just to get the most out of my career. I knew I had levels that I could reach. “I knew if I had the right environment and the players around me like I do now that I would score goals that Messi and Ronaldo in that era used to score. “So the fact that I took that risk, it’s paid off for sure, makes me extremely proud.” Kane has won back-to-back Bundesliga titles – ending the trophy drought he experienced at Spurs – but the big one he wants in club football is the Champions League. Bayern lost to eventual winners Paris Saint-Germain 6-5 on aggregate in a thrilling semi-final last term. The German giants kick off their new campaign at home to Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt on Thursday and Kane says the hunger in Vincent Kompany’s squad to win the competition is huge. He added: “We’re really close. I think last year was the finest of margins – to go out to a team who has won the Champions League back to back. There’s no shame in that. “We’re coming into this season now saying that it needs to be our year.
