Harry Kane admits England fans SHOULD be upset after dismal World Cup exit to Argentina but vows team will ‘improve’

HARRY KANE can finally put his feet up after the most extraordinary season of his life. After delivering an incredible tally of 73 goals in 65 games, the England captain will take a few weeks off, presumably with a golf club in hand, before focusing on another season with Bayern Munich. And Kane accepts that England fans have every right to be frustrated and angry. Kane said: “The last 30 minutes of Argentina is not the team we want to be. It’s easy to go away and talk about it. We need to get better at actually being in those situations. “We can train, play the qualifiers… I think the Nations League will be big for us, against Spain and Croatia, big teams. “We have to learn, improve. The coach will have improved from these learnings. I can talk as much as I want but ultimately it’s about showing it next time we’re in that situation. “It’s so hard. I think the fans are behind the team and are behind the manager. We’ve all been England fans when we wished we’d done this or that and it didn’t quite happen. That will die down naturally. “Before we know it, we’ll, be back with our clubs and the focus shifts to Champions League or the Nations League. “Things do move quickly. Fans have a right to be emotional, sad and angry. We all are, we all feel it. “We have a chance to change it but it wasn’t to be this year. There is still a lot of positives to take from this, competing against the odds away from home and you finish third. Keep your chin on and go again. “Every time you get closer, knock on the door. You think you’ve learned and you have but we just have to keep going.” Kane scored six goals at the World Cup but did not feature in Saturday’s bizarre game. Asked for his reflections on the tournament, he said: “A lot of positives. It’s the highest finish in 60 years, the highest finish on foreign soil. There is a lot to be proud of. “Of course we’re still feeling it from the other night, the emotion and the what ifs. That will be with us for a while now. “I’m proud of the boys, how we approached the France game. It wasn’t easy to find the mentality. “We said before that every time you represent England it should be a proud moment. It’s the least we deserved, to grab a medal. “We had a lot of good things, a lot of tough situations we overcame. The group is incredible, the best England group I’ve been a part of in terms of togetherness. The boss was a big part of creating that as well. “Fans are going to be angry and we understand it. It’s a major tournament and that’s why you dream so big. “When it doesn’t go your way you have to take the criticism. We’re all willing to do that, to dare to reach the biggest goal of all.” England’s problem is that Kane will be 34 when they co-host the Euros in two years. Providing he remains injury-free, he still be one of the best strikers in the planet but right now, he is THE best in that position. So even if England win Euro 2028, which they will be one of the favourites, they will always look back on this tournament with a sense of regret. One thing that will stay in the memory was this weird 10-goal game against France. Bukayo Saka scored a hat-trick with Ezri Konsa, Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham on target. Kylian Mbappe got a double with Bradley Barcola and Ousmane Dembele getting the others for France. The stand-out goal was Bellingham’s individual strike which made it 6-4. Kane said: “The game was impossible to judge because it was a complete opposite to what it would’ve been if it was a final. “It shows the quality we have. To score six against anyone, you have to play a certain way and play well. “There is stuff we need to improve on.
