Halo Officially Unveils Stunning 2027 Return

Halo fans have been waiting patiently for the major announcement of the franchise's next mainline multiplayer entry and any news on what's next for Master Chief. After the release of Campaign Evolved earlier this year, fans are feeling a bit ambivalent about the future. It's hard to imagine the next mainline multiplayer game announcement is that far off, given the reinvigorated excitement around Halo and its iconic story. While there are reportedly new campaign remakes coming for Halo 2 and Halo 3 in the same vein as Halo: Campaign Evolved, the future of Halo multiplayer remains much less certain. Reports have pointed toward a separate live-service multiplayer project, but Halo Studios has yet to formally announce it, with Campaign Evolved still listed as the studio's only main current project. Until that changes, fans are left wondering whether the next competitive Halo will be a direct successor to Infinite or something significantly different from the traditional arena-shooter formula. However, Halo is officially returning in 2027 with the release of Halo: Fireteam Noble, and after recently getting a look at the stunning cover images, there's a lot to look forward to next year (via Waypoint). Halo: Fireteam Noble is shaping up to be one of the most exciting additions to the franchise's expanded universe in quite some time, particularly for fans of Halo: Reach. Written by veteran Halo author Troy Denning, the novel is currently listed for release on March 2, 2027, although Halo Studios has previously cautioned that the March date is subject to change and is officially describing the release window as early 2027. It will be available in print, ebook, and audiobook formats at major retailers worldwide. The newly revealed cover artwork is incredible, with longtime Halo artist Garrett Post bringing together Jun-A266 and his new squad. Alongside the last surviving member of Noble Team are Rosenda-A344, who actually served as Noble Four before being replaced by Emile in 2552, Halo Infinite multiplayer characters Sigrid Eklund and Hieu Dinh, and Sangheili warrior Atis 'Moramai, who appears to wield an unusual new energy sword type. The story itself takes place in 2560, eight years after the fall of Reach and during the same tumultuous year as Halo Infinite. With the galaxy fractured following Cortana's Created uprising and the Banished expanding across former Covenant territory, Jun is training a new generation of warriors at Anvil Station when a prominent xenoarcheologist is kidnapped. The rescue mission forces him back into active combat while directly confronting his survivor's guilt and the question of what Noble Team's legacy should become. It's an exciting new chapter in the franchise that fans will definitely not want to skip, and while it's not exactly the new Halo multiplayer entry announcement we've been hoping for, the cover images are absolutely stunning and the story is shaping up to be something truly special.
