The Rhode founder, 29, spoke about her diagnosis in a recent interview with Women’s Wear Daily. According to the Mayo Clinic, PMDD is a severe extension of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) that causes extreme mood swings. Behavioral symptoms can include sadness or hopelessness, anxiety, extreme moodiness, irritability and anger. “After I had my son, I struggled with [PMDD] a bit, and there’s just not a lot of conversation or research around it,” Bieber said. The model said talking about her struggles has helped her. That was just a really intense and special journey that I had,” she explained. “There’s so much that happens when you are pregnant, during childbirth. There’s so many things that happen leading up to having a child.” The influencer and her husband, Justin Bieber, welcomed their now 2-year-old son in August 2024. She first revealed she had PMDD during her appearance on the “SHE MD Podcast” back in May, noting that it disrupted her work, relationships, and social life. “For me, it felt like the week before my period was not just ‘PMS,'” she explained. “It felt extreme mentally. Like, ‘Why does it feel like my whole entire life is going to end?'” “It sucks,” she added. “It is also dangerous, and it should be taken seriously.” Hailey isn’t the only celeb who has spoken out about having PMDD. “Riverdale” alum Lili Reinhart, singer Zara Larsson and influencer Dixie D’Amelio have all openly talked about having the disorder. D’Amelio spoke about how it severely affected her mental health and relationships during the Season 3 premiere of “The D’Amelio Show” on Hulu back in September 2023. “People are going to be like, ‘Oh my God, everybody gets that.’ Like, no,” she said in a confessional.
