GreenVita lets modded PS Vita handhelds stream Xbox Cloud Gaming with Game Pass, turning it into a pocket-sized Xbox. The PS Vita might be dead, but it's still getting great homebrew ports and emulators. It's pretty easy to forget Sony's PlayStation Vita ever existed. The handheld, which released back in 2011, was way ahead of its time, offering a high-resolution display, excellent build quality, and a collection of genuinely great games like Guacamelee, Persona 4 Golden, and Rayman Origins, just to name a few, but the runaway success of Nintendo's 3DS ultimately killed off the portable.Despite being officially discontinued by Sony in 2019, a vibrant homebrew community has grown around the PS Vita, releasing new apps and games for the handheld. This is where GreenVita, a new PlayStation Vita app that supports Xbox Cloud Gaming, comes in. You'll need a modded PlayStation Vita to install GreenVita The handheld has a very active community that's keeping it alive To install the app, you'll need a modded PS Vita and an active Game Pass subscription, but based on a video of GreenVita in action posted by Twitter account @Play4Index, it seems to run extremely well, offeringa way to play Xbox Cloud Gaming titles directly on the handheld. In a way, it kind of turns the PS Vita into a portable Xbox as long as you have a solid internet connection available. Imagine playing Gears of War: E-Day in a few months on the roughly 14-year-old handheld? It might feel a bit weird, but in theory, it should play great on the PS Vita. If you're interested in checking out Day-OS' GreenVita, you can find the project on GitHub. Despite being pretty old, the PS Vita is still a very capable handheld with a lot of very cool homebrew projects, including ports of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Max Payne, Half-Life 2, RetroArch (a multi-system emulator), Flycast Vita (a Dreamcast emulator), and countless other apps and games. It really makes me want to dig out my PlayStation Vita and get it up and running again with some cool homebrew projects. In other Xbox-related news, Microsoft recently revealed that it has ported several OG Xbox titles to PC, hinting that the tech giant has big retro emulation plans for the future.
