When The Gentlemen season 3 arrives on Netflix, it will be without one of the crime thriller series' biggest characters, and that undoes what stands as the show's best twist until this point. Netflix's TV show slate features several hits in the crime thriller category, with 2026 being a major year for the streamer, both in terms of returning and new thriller series. Among those Netflix thriller shows that came back with new seasons are hits like the legal thriller The Lincoln Lawyer, the spy thriller The Night Agent, the crime thriller The Chestnut Man, and many more. Guy Ritchie's The Gentlemen is one of such shows, having returned with season 2 on September 3 after The Gentlemen season 1 had premiered all the way back on March 7, 2024. Season 1 introduced viewers to a gritty world filled with the flair of Ritchie's popular movies and TV shows, establishing the Glass criminal empire and the role Theo James' Eddie Horniman played in it. Netflix's The Gentlemen season 2 dug deeper, exploring what it would take for Eddie's posh exterior to break, taking the character on a dark ride of loss, betrayal, ambition, and revenge. Choose the movie with the higher Rotten Tomatoes score. Many characters played a key role in Eddie's season 2 journey. That included players like his new wife, Benedetta Porcaroli's Bella, and old connections, including Kaya Scodelario's Susie Glass, Vinnie Jones' Geoffrey, Giancarlo Esposito's Stanley Johnston, Ray Winstone's Bobby Glass, and more. However, it is one of those old players who will not return for The Gentlemen season 3, ending the Netflix series' best twist. The Gentlemen Season 3 Will Be Missing A Major Character MovieStillsDB In an effort to get The Gentlemen season 3 out sooner than the two-and-a-half year gap between seasons 1 and 2 of the hit crime thriller series, Netflix officially announced that The Gentlemen had been renewed for season 3 back in August, before its latest season had even debuted. With that announcement came the expectation that the majority of the series' core cast would be back for that new batch of episodes. However, that has now seemingly been confirmed not to be the case. Speaking to HATC Magazine, Daniel Ings claimed that he will not return as Eddie's brother, Freddy, in season 3. Even though Freddy had a reduced role in The Gentlemen season 2 compared to the character's hilarious antics in season 1, Freddy was crucial to season 2's ending and the Netflix crime thriller series' best twist to date. However, he will not return for The Gentlemen season 3. According to Ings, Freddy's season 3 absence comes with "a fun sense of closure" for the actor. Instead of continuing to have Freddy disrupt Eddie's plans in comedic ways as he messed things up, like in season 1, the star enjoyed how The Gentlemen season 2 saw his story end with Freddy in a "wild, broken, crazy" direction. How Freddy's The Gentlemen Season 3 Absence Wastes The Potential Of The Show's Best Twist If as final as the actor makes it sound, this The Gentlemen season 3 cast decision is truly baffling. Freddy might not have appeared much in season 2, but it was out of his desire for revenge, amped up by Gospel John's manipulation, that Bella ended up dying briefly after her and Eddie got married, sending James' character down a dark spiral, with baby Tarquin also nearly getting kidnapped. This level of betrayal was shocking and quite twisted, and it came with a similarly deranged solution, as Eddie forced Freddy to brutally murder Gospel John with a chainsaw in the finale. It seemed like the Netflix show was setting up The Gentlemen season 3 to explore where that sequence of events left the brothers' relationship. Would Eddie ever truly forgive Freddy? Would the trauma caused by killing Gospel John change Freddy in a major way? And more such questions will now not be answered as profoundly as viewers had hoped. It is a disappointing end to what has proved to be the show's best twist thus far. Hopefully, should Netflix renew The Gentlemen for season 4, Ings could return as Freddy to see the setup from the season 2 finale deliver on its full potential.
