Warning: Spoilers ahead for The Gentlemen season 3.The Gentlemen season 3 loses a major star. The Gentlemen is an action-comedy crime drama created, co-written, and executive produced by Guy Ritchie, and it serves as a spinoff of the 2019 film of the same name. The eight-episode premiere for season 1 was a huge success and earned multiple award nominations and an Emmy win. Now with season 3 already greenlit and set to enter production soon, a shocking announcement has been made about one of the major characters of the series. Netflix's The Gentlemen recently returned with its explosive second season and was met with a lot of success. However, a major star has officially left the series despite being such a pivotal character in season 2. In an interview with HATC Magazine, Daniel Ings, known for playing Theo James' character Eddie's brother Freddy, has announced he will not be returning for The Gentlemen season 3. "I'm not in the next one. So that's a fun sense of closure. I kind of see it as closure for the character in a way; it just ends as this wild, broken, crazy, you know. I don't know, probably mumbling into the ether somewhere in the British countryside. It was a fun way to kind of cap off the character. You don't want to keep playing the same game with the audience of this guy kind of comedically messing things up for them. So it was an interesting challenge to take him in a different direction at the end. I thought it was fun." Freddy is Eddie's older and problematic brother who has a habit of self-destruction and chaos. The two characters are extremely different, and that has caused friction between the pair. Freddy Horniman (played by Ings) is the eldest son and original heir of the 12th Duke of Halstead. However, his younger and more composed brother was given the title and estate. During The Gentlemen season 2, Eddie discovers Freddy, and Gospel John conducts a plan that leads to the death of his wife, Bella. After beating Freddy and locating Gospel John, Eddie takes his older brother into an unmarked van where he is forced to use a chainsaw on his co-conspirator. Despite the major and shocking revelation, Ings is not returning and states it's "a fun sense of closure," which is far from the popular opinion, as it leaves his character's future open-ended. When discussing being a part of the Netflix series as such a confusing character, Ings stated, "It was a lot of fun. Really, it was a great experience. I'll always be grateful to have played a part in creating that character. I absolutely loved playing Freddy. When that storyline was presented to me for series two, he was written almost as a completely different character. And part of that was that I think Guy wanted to move away from the humour of it. He sat me down on my first day on the second series and was like, we went too far with the humour; we got to pull it back. So that was part of it was really interesting to kind of thread that needle." The Gentlemen season 2 earned great critical acclaim with an 86% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Reviews stated, "This is a series that reinforces why getting to binge Netflix series can be a lot of fun and I expect a lot of reactions once viewers finish the finale," and "The new episodes of The Gentlemen maintain Ritchie's characteristic level of spectacle, violence, and sense of humor." ScreenRant's El Kuiper stated, "Vinnie Jones is one of this season's MVPs, a quiet, dependable presence for Eddie, and, even more importantly, the audience." The Gentlemen season 2 is available to stream on Netflix. At the time of writing, there is no official season 3 release date.
