Despite the demanding routine, she manages to support her daughter’s education at a private school, pay Rs 10,000 in monthly rent excluding utilities and cover her daily expenses. She is also steadily paying an EMI for a piece of land worth Rs 6 lakh in her hometown. “What you don't spend is what you save,” Shiva quoted her as saying, describing it as her simple approach to managing money.“What struck me most wasn’t just the math, but where that money actually goes,” he said. Her spending is focused almost entirely on necessities, with her main priority being to secure a stable future for her daughter. Mittal contrasted this with people who take on EMIs for depreciating assets such as cars and gadgets, along with lifestyle upgrades that may be driven by appearances or social expectations.“We read personal finance books, download budgeting apps, and still find ways to leak money despite having comfortable corporate safety nets,” he said. He noted that his help has no corporate safety net, employee benefits or insurance and little room for financial error. Yet, according to him, she maintains a clear focus on what matters to her without relying on spreadsheets or formal financial planning.Shiva also highlighted her work routine, saying she shows up every morning before 7 am and works across multiple homes to maintain her income.“Really made me pause and rethink what real financial discipline looks like in everyday life,” he concluded.Read the entire post here:For Shiva Mittal, her approach offered a different perspective on financial security - one built around living within her means, prioritising her daughter’s future and putting money towards an asset rather than lifestyle expenses. Her routine, he said, showed that financial discipline does not always require complicated plans or sophisticated tools, but can come down to knowing what matters and consistently spending accordingly.- EndsPublished On: Sep 11, 2026 08:04 IST
