GTA Online's Post-GTA 6 Future Officially Confirmed

Initially launching as a single-player experience at first, online multiplayer will follow at a later date. With the absolutely unprecedented success of Grand Theft Auto V thanks to its online playground of sheer chaos and fun, there's been a burning question on every gamer's mind. What will happen to Grand Theft Auto Online once Grand Theft Auto VI comes out? Well, thanks to Take-Two Interactive's earnings call, we now know that new content and support for Grand Theft Auto Online will continue long after the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI. CEO Strauss Zelnick reported that the speed at which they produce new content for Grand Theft Auto Online has remained steady and player interactions with new content shows great success. Some content hits better than others, but in general it's very successful overall. That's great news for gamers who were worried Grand Theft Auto VI would spell the end for GTA Online. What Happens To GTA Online Once GTA 6 Launches? Once Grand Theft Auto VI launches, it will be business as usual for Grand Theft Auto Online. The game has a huge fan base and is currently Take-Two Interactive's biggest cash cow, so it's unlikely we'll see it winding down anytime soon. Strauss Zelnick and the team are determined to maintain the same pace of content releases for GTA Online and nothing is expected to change after Grand Theft Auto VI launches. Strauss Zelnick quote: Generally speaking, our update cadence for GTA Online has been pretty stable. Some of the updates have been amazing, and some have been less successful, but generally speaking, consumers really love them. But the cadence hasn’t really changed, and we do apply significant resources to that, and we do expect to support Grand Theft Auto Online going forward. The bigger question is what would a Grand Theft Auto Online world look like if it integrated Grand Theft Auto VI into the fold. Can both properties merge, or will it need its own ecosystem? We've seen Red Dead Online limp to a slow death, so it would be horrible to see the same faith befall either Grand Theft Auto V or VI. Can they build two separate successful online games or find a way to merge the two? Rockstar Games With no other official updates on the future of Grand Theft Auto Online, we're left to speculate about its future. Grand Theft Auto VI will launch online multiplayer at a later date, but with the game being current gen only, it seems impossible that they would be able to merge both online games. So if Grand Theft Auto VI Online becomes the next big cash cow for the company, will they wind down the current GTA Online? Only time will tell, but at least we have some assurances that GTA Online won't be winding down anytime soon. Worries about Grand Theft Auto Online aside, Grand Theft Auto VI is set to be the biggest game of 2026 and perhaps the most anticipated launch of the decade. While some are only excited about Marvel's Wolverine and others are holding out for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake, for the vast majority of gamers...there is only one game on their wishlist.
