Sign in to your TheGamer account As if the long overdue release of Grand Theft Auto 6 didn't have enough controversies under its belt, with Rockstar doubling down on the removal of physical discs and still no update on when we can expect a GTA Online release for the game, GTA 6's release just got even more grim for those not willing to drop over $100 on release. While Take-Two has previously reported that a majority of players are willing to opt for the more premium-priced version of Rockstar's latest open-world game, many fans are still on the fence and would rather just wait a little longer for a sale. Even though the extra delay for a discount would normally have been a small drop in the bucket for GTA 6's 13-year development, Take-Two's CEO says otherwise. Fans Have No Choice But To Save Up For GTA 6 Key art provided by Rockstar Games. As reported by GamesRadar, Take-Two's CEO Strauss Zelnick recently had an interview with CNBC to discuss the highly anticipated game. During the talk, when asked about whether GTA 6 might receive a discount in time for the 2026 holiday season, Strauss confirmed not only would there not be, but also noted how Take-Two "preserved our pricing on Grand Theft Auto 5 for a very long time," with GTA 6 following suit. While the CEO did mention that "storefronts can do what they wish" and could potentially lower GTA 6 below MSRP sooner than Take-Two officially does themselves, the short window between GTA 6's release and the 2026 holiday season makes it seem incredibly unlikely that retailers would want to start "reducing their margin on sale" so early. It isn't all doom and gloom, however, as while Take-Two's CEO doubled down by saying that they kept the pricing model of GTA 5 steady for "much longer than a standard release and entertainment property," the open-world game still received sales on all systems less than a year after release, with consoles being lucky enough to have GTA 5 release in a sweet spot to receive a discount on Black Friday in just a few months. Although it wouldn't be a surprise to see Take-Two delay any discounts for GTA 6 for far longer than a typical post-launch timeline, Take-Two's CEO did also state that the price of the experience will "eventually" get reduced through temporary discounts or bundle promotions. Despite the silver lining, there's still no telling how long we'll have to wait, especially considering the sheer success GTA 6's pre-orders have already seen since they went live.
