GTA 6 will feature sex scenes as Vice City signs pop up in Miami

GTA has attracted controversy over the years for various reasons, but its handling of sex has always been a hot button issue. While the games have largely skirted around showing sex explicitly, they have always allowed you to pick up sex workers and have relations with them. The biggest sex scandal in the series was the Hot Coffee mod for GTA: San Andreas, which was a minigame hidden in the game’s code that showed the protagonist having sex with his in-game girlfriend. For the first time in the series’ history, GTA 6 is led by a romantic couple in Jason and Lucia, so there’s been a question around whether Rockstar will push the envelope in regards to sexual content. Based on an age rating on the Australian and New Zealand PlayStation Store, GTA 6 will, at the very least, include sex scenes. A description next to the 18 rating, reads: ‘Drug use, graphic violence, nudity, offensive language, sex scenes.’ The PEGI rating description for GTA 6 on the PlayStation Store in the UK, meanwhile, describes it as ‘sexual content’ rather than ‘sex scenes’. For the ESRB in the US, they describe it as ‘strong sexual content’, which is the same term they used for GTA 5. The ratings board in Australia is known for being extremely strict, so it’s unclear whether this ‘sex scenes’ distinction is different compared to what we’ve seen in past GTA games. For GTA 5 though, the same board didn’t use the term and went with ‘sexual material’ and ‘sex’ instead, so it sounds like GTA 6 might be going further. GTA 5 features a sex scene where Trevor is seen frolicking with Johnny Klebitz’s girlfriend in his trailer, but it’s very brief. Earlier this week, a Vice City sign on top of Miami’s Kaseya Center was lit up for the first time. Additionally, a giant mural is underway in Brooklyn, New York, which will likely be completed later this month. It’s unclear if Rockstar will release another trailer for GTA 6 ahead of its launch, but it seems likely – if only to show off the 170 animal species.
