GTA 6 multiplayer to launch in 2027 according to Twitch boss

| Games News Writer Published September 18, 2026 1:28pm Updated September 18, 2026 1:28pm Set to make a splash for years (Rockstar) Twitch’s CEO has claimed Rockstar will launch GTA 6’s multiplayer next year, as Take-Two promises continued support for GTA Online. As the world awaits the launch of GTA 6 on November 19, there’s still a lot of questions around the multiplayer component of Rockstar’s juggernaut. Rockstar has confirmed GTA 6 will be a ‘single-player experience’ at launch, implying any online aspects will come later. Technically, the studio hasn’t confirmed an online mode even exists, but it’s widely expected after the success of GTA Online. The big question is when GTA 6’s online mode – whether a successor to GTA Online or otherwise – will be released. In the case of GTA 5, GTA Online launched two weeks after the main game, but a similar rollout seems unlikely considering GTA 6’s late November release date. Instead, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy seems to have let slip that it will be next year. Speaking in an interview with Bloomberg, Clancy said: ‘We spent a lot of time talking with Rockstar about their plans, and also helping them think about how they can engage our creators. You are going to see this big bump with GTA 6, but then an even bigger one next year when they launch multiplayer.’ While the latter remark could be passed off as an educated guess, the fact Clancy has been ‘talking with Rockstar’ suggests he has knowledge of their plans. Even so, the 2027 window is so broad it’s difficult to tell. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. 2027 certainly seems the most likely option for GTA 6’s multiplayer, especially as Take-Two plans to support the current version of GTA Online beyond GTA 6’s launch. This was reiterated recently in a Take-Two shareholders meeting (via ResetEra), where the publisher said: ‘We will continue to support GTA Online after GTA 6 release and beyond.’ If GTA Online continues to exist after GTA 6, it raises the question of whether Rockstar will overhaul the current version of its online service, add multiplayer to GTA 6, or release a new version of GTA Online as a separate title. Either way, considering how popular and profitable GTA Online is, it’s certainly going to be a tricky task for Rockstar to transition from one to another – if a new version does materialise. GTA 6 is set to launch across PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19, 2026.
