So much more about GTA 6 has been revealed outside of the 26 minutes shown, too, including how long it’s going to take to play through its story. GTA 6 Has An 80 Hour Story Rockstar We were shown a pretty significant chunk of what we’ll go through as Jason and Lucia via the Extended Look. Turns out what we were shown on Netflix barely scratches the surface. Rockstar’s co-studio head Rob Nelson spoke to The New York Times (thanks, IGN) about his most recent playthrough of GTA 6 behind the scenes, revealing that it took around 80 hours to finish. There is a lot to do in GTA 6. We were given a taste of that during the Extended Look. However, Nelson clarifies that his 80-hour playthrough was almost entirely dedicated to the game’s main story. Just that and “optional goals with narrative ramifications”. So if we mess around in its huge open world, which we’re all going to do, getting to the end of that story is comfortably going to take 100+ hours. Those optional goals Nelson mentions are interesting, too. It sounds like that, unlike other GTA games, we’re all going to experience slightly different versions of its story. In the slew of additional details revealed via various interviews after the Extended Look went live, among them is the suggestion that Jason and Lucia’s relationship will change depending on your actions. It’s even been suggested that they won’t even have to be in a relationship at all, at least not a romantic one. How 80 Hours Compares To Other GTA Games Rockstar That base 80 hours for the GTA 6 story is bigger than any other GTA game in history by a large margin. According to HowLongToBeat, the series’ current record holder is GTA 5 with a story that takes 32 hours to play through. In fact, with a completionist run that takes a little less than 90 hours, it’s going to take almost as long to play through GTA 6’s story as it takes to 100% GTA 5. GTA 6’s story is also significantly longer than the stories in GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas combined. It would take you 64 hours to play through the iconic early 2000s trilogy back to back. GTA 4 also doesn’t come close with a story that takes 27 hours to beat. There might be a fear among some excited to play GTA 6 that there has still been no mention of an online component. That will come eventually, but this is our best evidence yet that Rockstar will be in no rush to get it out. With an 80-hour story alone, not to mention everything else there will be to do outside of it, GTA 6 is going to keep tens of millions of people occupied for a very long time.
