That's because of hacker CyberLeek, who acquired an illegitimate copy of GTA 6 and began posting leaks online in the name of consumer rights, tanking the company's stock and reportedly causing tension with Netflix over the exclusive reveal due later this month. Though, of course, it's not really about consumer rights, as these leaks are plastered with crypto ads and paid polls. This has split people down the middle. Some are cheering on the hacker, as evidenced by the $391,000 in cryptocurrency they now own; others look on with curiosity at the leaks, picking apart all the unannounced details; and then there are a select few who are going as far as to join in on the manhunt. One such post from X user @KINGJulien15x went viral over the last few days, claiming to have spent upward of 16 hours on an investigation into the hacker, emailing their evidence to Take-Two and Rockstar's legal team. They've become the subject of ridicule online for this post, labeled "cattle" and a "snitch" by the community. Even the famously decentralized network of hackers known as Anonymous posted a statement addressing this kind of amateur sleuthing, voicing their support for CyberLeek: "There is a wave of 'superheroes' trying to hunt down the GTA 6 leaker. Imagine having zero shame doing free detective work for a billion-dollar corporation that couldn't care less about its consumers." Consumer Rights, Or An Elaborate Crypto Scheme? Anonymous' official X account has since posted memes of Cyberleek, while also sharing updates on the situation, such as the rumor that CyberLeek has a dead man's switch in place should they ever get caught, ensuring that the full game is leaked online ahead of launch. However, the idea that this is for consumer rights is again dubious. Movements like Stop Killing Games, which are fighting in court across both the US and the European Union for the same assurances, have condemned CyberLeek's actions, urging fans not to send their money and expressing support to Rockstar for "having to go through this ordeal again." "Using illegal means to make a point is unacceptable to us and does nothing to protect our right to keep using what we paid for," SKG said. "No matter how strongly you disagree with the decisions of upper management at these companies, there are still thousands of developers who worked hard on this project — and they're the ones being hit the hardest." Indeed, a new Bloomberg report offered insight into the chaotic atmosphere at Rockstar amid this very public turmoil, with employees "frustrated and exhausted" by the situation.
