A leaky ordeal (Rockstar Games) Rockstar’s nightmare month of GTA 6 leaks might be over, as the perpetrator seemingly tanks the value of his own crypto token. The GTA 6 Extended Look has officially been released across Netflix and YouTube, but the run-up to the showcase has been more turbulent than Rockstar ever imagined. From August 18, gameplay videos from the highly anticipated sequel began to leak online from a person or group known as Cyberleek. They have released clips daily ever since, with each video showing links to invest into their crypto token. The stunt was clearly designed to earn money, despite their attempts to sell it as a protest against Rockstar’s decision to not release GTA 6 on physical discs. In terms of getting attention though, it worked, with Rockstar even issuing an apology to fans over the situation. However, it seems Cyberleek’s moment in the sun might be over. As noted by GTAForums poster Vice Crit, who has been documenting the leaker’s crypto activity since last week, Cyberleek collected around $270,000 (£198,700) from the $CYBERLEEK token in the early hours of Thursday, August 27, ahead of the Extended Look. It’s claimed they moved the cash to various cyber wallets, which has caused the coin’s value to plummet. According to Vice Crit, Cyberleek ‘burned’ 270 million tokens in a bid to gain trust from investors and quell concerns of a rug pull (where they abandon the asset and leave investors with worthless tokens). As such, this $270,000 figure is said to be from transaction fees which were earned over the last week of trading. Vice Crit claims Cyberleek profited around $241,000 (£177,362) from the leaks, measured against estimated setup costs of $29,000 (£21,342). That’s assuming the leaks do end here, but as noted by the GTA Forums poster, this cash out indicates the $CYBERLEEK coin is ‘likely done’. Considering they have been releasing clips daily over the past week, it suggests they have perhaps ducked out with what they have. Rockstar certainly won’t let it slide, however, and if they do catch up with the perpetrators, they’ll likely be hit with a bill far higher than a quarter of a million dollars. There’s a strong chance they will get them too, considering these crypto transactions leave a digital trail. If Cyberleek is done with, it also raises the question of what access they had to GTA 6 to begin with. They claimed to have a playable build, but if that was true, they’d likely still be releasing clips – or showing ones that are more interesting than some clunky night-time drives. We likely won’t know unless Rockstar does catch up with them. The company has already filed subpoena requests against Discord and Microsoft, in an attempt to track them down, but so far, there isn’t any indication that Rockstar knows who or what Cyberleek is. For now, we’ll have to wait and see if any new activity does crop up over the next few days. In the meantime, you can just give the Extended Look another rewatch.
