A Line From A New GTA 6 Interview May Have Confirmed A Popular Theory About Jason Published Oct 6, 2026, 9:05 AM EDT Sign in to your TheGamer account For years, we've relied on fan theories as we try to piece together Grand Theft Auto 6's story. We've known for some time that it will all centre around Jason and Lucia, a Bonnie-and-Clyde type who embark on a life of crime together. But as we've seen more of the couple in the trailers and gameplay reveal, we've been able to get a better feel for their dynamic - both together and apart. Having seen how Jason interacts with others in the gameplay reveal, many came away believing that he is neurodivergent, specifically autistic. This came up when others with autism related to his mannerisms and some of the comments he made during the preview - such as being more comfortable when given a task rather than having to schmooze with others, and not always getting social cues. Now, a new interview with some Rockstar devs has added fuel to the fire. Speaking with Love Magazine, senior VP of narrative at Rockstar, Rupert Humphries, made a comment about Jason which many are interpreting as confirmation that he has autism. GTA 6 Narrative Head Says That Jason Is "Wired Differently" During the interview, Humphries touches on Jason's character and his motivation behind getting into a life of crime. "It needs to be understood that he takes the measures he does - drug trafficking and becoming a bank robber, etc. - because of his material circumstances," Humphries says. "But a lot of this is up to the player to decide whether he needs to do that, or if it's a choice he makes because he's wired differently from other people." It's that last comment - Jason being "wired differently from other people" - that has gotten the most attention. Many are interpreting it as another hint that Jason is autistic, explaining why we saw Lucia handle a lot of the talking in the gameplay demo. With that said, when the full quote is taken in context, it is possible that Humphries is referring to something else entirely. Here, he is talking about how player actions could determine Jason's motivations, and saying that he's "wired differently" could just be a reference to how every Rockstar protagonist has the capacity to engage in a wide range of actions, thanks to the freedom granted to the player. In that case, it might not be referencing potential autism at all. The same language was not used to describe Lucia, who we will also be controlling. Another point in favour of the fan theory? In any case, it won't be long until we can make up our own minds. GTA 6 is set to launch on November 19.
