Writing serves as a much-needed distraction from tackling a backlog of Steam games that will never be surmounted. Sign in to your ScreenRant account Grand Theft Auto 6 is set to be a juggernaut release when it finally arrives in November, and that descriptor will apparently apply in more ways than one. Not only will the game inevitably sell a staggering number of copies, but it's also going to take up a lot of space on every hard drive that it occupies. To date, Rockstar Games has refrained from revealing an official file size for GTA 6, and it's not even guaranteed that a final file size has been reached up to this point. Thanks to a new leak, however, we now have a number to attach to the game, and it's every bit as hefty as fans were fearing. According to PlayStation Game Size on X, Grand Theft Auto 6 will have a download size of 210 GB for the standard edition on PS5. PlayStation Game Size pulls data from the PlayStation Store to reveal how many GBs upcoming releases will need to download, with another post dropping a significantly smaller file size for Shrek 2 Remastered earlier today. The 210 GB download for GTA 6 will be available for preload on November 12, giving players one week to deal with the download before the official release on November 19. No information is yet available for the file size on Xbox Series X/S, but it's unlikely to be radically different than the PlayStation counterpart. Game file sizes have gotten aggressively bigger in recent years, and franchises like Call of Duty turned triple-digit numbers from something unthinkable into a common occurrence. In its remastered incarnation, even Grand Theft Auto 5 has crept up to around 100 GB, a far cry from the original 8.5 GB file size for the base game on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. GTA 6 is set to double that number, forcing players to set aside a huge chunk of storage space to play the new game. This could be particularly frustrating for fans with slow Internet speeds, as the lack of any physical release makes it impossible to download even a portion of game files from a disc rather than digital PlayStation and Xbox storefronts. For some, however, the gargantuan download size might be exciting. It's clear that Grand Theft Auto 6 is both massive in scope and impressively detailed, and the 205 GB number certainly supports that promise. While some games rack up massive file sizes due to a lack of storage optimization, especially when it comes to ongoing live-service titles, there's no real reason to believe that this isn't simply the smallest that Rockstar could effectively make the game. Considering how much GTA 5 grew over time, there's also a possibility that the file size for GTA 6 could continue to swell after the release date. No matter how you slice it, you'll probably have to uninstall some games to fit the new behemoth on a console hard drive, especially if you're invested in space-hogging franchises like Call of Duty. Hopefully, Grand Theft Auto 6 will make that sacrifice thoroughly worthwhile.
