Sign in to your TheGamer account Rockstar is gearing up to show off a lot more of GTA 6 via an extended look at the game later this month that will premiere on Netflix. Not much about how the extended look will work has been shared; however, now-removed information spotted on Netflix in Portugal suggests we’re going to see and hear a lot about the game. Shared on the GTA 6 subreddit (thanks, Insider Gaming), the screenshot shows that the extended look at GTA 6 will span multiple episodes. The episodes were even given runtimes: 23 minutes and 37 seconds, 24 minutes and 41 seconds, and 18 minutes and 29 seconds. If accurate, then not only will the extended look run for three episodes, but those episodes will total almost 77 minutes. That’s well over an hour of info about GTA 6, most of which will almost certainly be stuff we don’t know. That’s a lot of time to fill when, so far, runtime guesses have ranged from a simple five-minute trailer and maxed out at around 20 minutes, with some suggesting we might see a trailer and gameplay footage spliced together with comments from developers, kind of like an Xbox Developer Direct. This information should naturally not be taken as gospel for now. It was quickly removed, and it may have simply been there as a placeholder while Netflix prepares for what might end up being one of the most-watched events in its history. Certainly the most-watched event when it comes to its work with video games. How Might Rockstar Fill 77 Minutes? How exactly will Rockstar fill 77 minutes? That might sound like a lot of time, but this is a game Rockstar has been working on for a decade or more. It’s going to feature a massive open world and almost certainly break ground in terms of gameplay, along with features and ideas we’ve never seen in video games before. I imagine there could be a six-part documentary where each episode is an hour long, and there’d still be more than enough to fill the show and keep it interesting. This is Netflix, too, which means if there are three episodes, we’ll likely be able to watch them all back-to-back like we’re binging Stranger Things. Cue people watching it at 2x speed or skipping to the end of episode three so they can see what the final moment is before anyone else. I hope Netflix has a way of preventing that, but if this really is going to be a three-episode arc, I’m struggling to figure out what measures might be taken to make sure everyone watches together. The gaming world does appear to be split on whether this is a good idea or a bit of a gross one. Gross because the extended look is effectively a big advert, and it’s being shown on a service you have to pay for. It’s hard not to see why this will benefit Rockstar, though. There will be no game like GTA 6 when it comes to mass appeal to a casual audience. The best way to make sure that casual audience knows everything they need to know is to stick this front and center on Netflix for the world to see.
