GTA 6 extended look causes PS5 Pro to sell out – only two stores have it in UK

(Sony Interactive Entertainment) The PS5 Pro is going to be the best way to play GTA 6 when it comes out this November but there’s a problem: the Netflix show last week has caused it to all but sell out. It’s still not entirely clear why Rockstar Games chose to release the 26-minute extended look at GTA 6 on Netflix rather than YouTube. Perhaps they got annoyed at Marvel movie trailers beating GTA’s viewer records but as of now the extended look only has 17 million on YouTube, which is well below either of the previous trailers. However, it was the most-watched thing (Netflix classify it as a movie) of the week on Netflix, with 31.1 million views in just four days. That’s quite an achievement, although it’s well below the record for a debut, which was earned by Stranger Things Season 5 with 59.6 million views. It’s hard to guess whether it’s going to equal the viewing figures of Trailer 1 (294 million) or Trailer 2 (181 million) but then those were only a few minutes long, while the extended look requires more of a time commitment. A more clearcut illustration of the video’s success can be found elsewhere, in the fact that the PS5 Pro has all but sold out in the wake of the Netflix premiere. For the last few years, it’s been widely assumed that Sony and Rockstar would promote the more powerful PS5 Pro as the best way to play GTA 6 but so far neither company has actually done that. The PS5 Pro certainly wasn’t mentioned in the video, or any of the previous trailers, but then none of them have had any narration, so they’ve never gone into details like which consoles you need to own to play it – there’s just been some logos at the end and that’s it. That means it’s unclear what difference the PS5 Pro will actually make, although experts seem pretty certain that it won’t allow the game to run at 60fps, with the game stuck at 30fps until the inevitable PC version (which is probably next year, although Rockstar has still not officially announced it). Even so, if you don’t own a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S, but you do have the cash, then the PS5 Pro is the obvious console to buy in order to play GTA 6, since the game seems to be pushing the limits of the base PlayStation 5 pretty hard. The PS5 Pro is much more expensive than the base model, at an eye-watering £789.99, but nevertheless it is currently all but sold out in the UK, even though it wasn’t prior to the release of the GTA 6 show on Netflix. At the time of writing, the only retailers that still have stock are Very and Sony, via their PlayStation Direct website. Everywhere else that we could think of checking is completely sold out, including Amazon (even refurbished models), Argos, and Currys. At the moment, prices on eBay are relatively sane, although they are rapidly creeping up towards £1,000 and one listing for the 30th anniversary version is over £3,500 (and it’s not even boxed!). Given the ongoing component crisis, it’s impossible to know how much of a problem this is going to be as we get closer to GTA 6’s release on November 19, especially as the PS5 Pro is going to be in demand as a Christmas present anyway. If Sony isn’t able to ramp up production, then the PS5 Pro could be extremely scarce over the next couple of months, so if you know you want to get one, and you see it in stock at the standard price, you should probably snap it up straight away.
