GTA 6 collector’s edition includes exclusive merchandise but no game

One for fans of Macca the Gator… whoever that is (Rockstar) The rumoured collector’s edition of GTA 6 is confirmed to be real by Rockstar, but those hoping it would come with a physical copy of the game are out of luck. A couple of weeks ago, word spread of an alleged collector’s edition of GTA 6, thanks to photos taken at a packaging company in Mexico, with some fans hoping, despite how unlikely it was, that it would contain a physical copy of the game. It seems everything and anything to do with GTA 6 is incapable of being leaked ahead of time because earlier today, Rockstar officially announced the collector’s edition, which it has dubbed Grand Theft Auto 6: The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection. Unfortunately, as should have been obvious, those theories of it including a physical version of the game were inaccurate. In fact, the collection doesn’t come with the game at all and consists entirely of merchandise. The merchandise is based on Macca the Gator, which is an in-universe TV show that’s very popular in Leonida, the fictional Florida stand-in that serves as the main setting of GTA 6. Unsurprisingly, it’s very expensive, at £349.99, and Rockstar also warns that it’s only available ‘while stocks last.’ Given how anticipated GTA 6 is, we expect this collection to sell out sooner rather than later. Just last week, Rockstar also announced an official GTA 6 soundtrack that’ll be available digitally and physically on November 19, which comes with new licensed songs featured in the game. It’s become increasingly common for video game collector’s editions to not include the game itself (Rockstar) For GTA 6 superfans buying the game, the soundtrack, and this Vice City collection will set you back nearly £431 and that’s assuming you’ve pre-ordered the standard edition of the game and the soundtrack on CD. If you pre-order the Ultimate Edition (which adds a lot of extra in-game content) for £89.99 and get the limited edition vinyl version of the soundtrack for £108.99, you’re spending just under £549 on the ultimate GTA 6 collection. All in all, Rockstar and publisher Take-Two Interactive stand to make a lot of money out of GTA 6 and this is even before the rumoured online multiplayer launches. The lack of a physical version of GTA 6 in the collector’s edition is sure to upset some but Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has gone on record saying discs ‘don’t really make sense’ for big games nowadays. We’re more surprised that Sony hasn’t announced a new PlayStation 5 bundle, that throws in a digital copy of GTA 6; especially when Sony and Rockstar are running promotions for the game, advertising it as running best on PlayStation hardware. Instead, Sony has only announced two GTA 6 themed PlayStation 5 controllers, which are available for £74.99 each on the PlayStation Direct website. Although perhaps there’s more to come.
