Now, with less than a couple of months until Grand Theft Auto 6’s release date arrives, it’s still bizarre to hear anything new about it, much less see an Extended Look gameplay trailer premiere on Netflix. But while fans continue to wait for a hypothetical Trailer 3 or to hear anything regarding Rockstar’s plans for an online component associated with Grand Theft Auto 6, Rockstar might’ve finally broken fans with its latest unveiling. Indeed, even fans who were unfazed by the price of Grand Theft Auto 6’s Ultimate edition appear to be perturbed by how much an official merchandise package will put them back, and it’s tough to blame them. As per the official Rockstar storefront, a premium Collector’s Box, dubbed the Goodtime State - Vice City Collection, is now available to pre-order. However, Grand Theft Auto 6’s Goodtime State - Vice City Collection costs $400 USD, and fans seem to be unanimously unhappy about that. Fans are understandably irritated by the fact that it’s being described as a “Collector’s” edition and costs $400, and yet it doesn’t even include the actual game. For instance, Reddit user roccosmodernlyf states that it’s “like actually criminal. Game sold separately is icing on the cake.” Meanwhile, other fans can’t comprehend Rockstar’s decision to hike the price as much as it has when its theme is so specific and unfamiliar to fans: “Why should I be hyped about a cartoon alligator I know nothing about,” writes user Great-External-2439. Grand Theft Auto 6 has always been the game that seems like it could get away with anything, without its fans ever moving a muscle in opposition to it. Besides, there are likely still fans who would purchase this Grand Theft Auto 6 Collector’s edition if it was double the price. That said, it’s clear that this could be one of Grand Theft Auto 6’s first big misses. Had it included the game, the general reception to it may have been far kinder. Either way, Grand Theft Auto 6 will have a massive launch this holiday season, and this Collector’s Box might only end up appealing to the most die-hard collectible fanatics, anyway.
