In the aftermath of the harrowing incident, she was sent to Gettysburg Hospital for an examination. Most read in The Sun Authorities were soon alerted to the incident, responding to an alleged sexual assault. The woman told officers she travelled to Gettysburg a day earlier to attend the wedding of a woman about to tie the knot with Prouty. After obtaining a warrant, officers retrieved a sample of the groom’s DNA which was sent to a laboratory for testing. The results allegedly confirmed a match with DNA found during the woman’s medical examination. According to police, the findings showed the DNA profile was “approximately 95 billion times more likely” to have originated from Prouty than another individual. Prouty now stands accused of rape and sexual assault, as well as several other charges. After appearing in court, the suspect was released on bail set at $50,000. A hearing is now scheduled to take place on August 12.
