Grimm Continuation Hopes & 10-Year Gap Elaborated By Cast

Cast members from the horror fantasy procedural have elaborated on hopes of the show returning, while also addressing what would be a 10-year gap in its timeline. The NBC series follows Detective Nick Burkhardt, a homicide investigator for the Portland Police Department, who learns that he's a Grimm, a guardian meant to keep the peace between the world of humans and of Wesen, mythological creatures that live amongst the population. Every season of Grimm builds upon the last, crafting an expansive story that ended in season 6. However, rumors have circulated the series may undergo a reboot, something addressed during a 15-year reunion at San Diego Comic-Con. In an interview with ScreenRant's Joe Deckelmeier at SDCC, Bree Turner, who played Rosalee Calvert, and Bitsie Tulloch, who played both Juliette Silverton and Eve, expressed interest in the idea of Grimm picking up where it left off. They explained that a 10-year time gap wasn't that much if something were to be greenlit this year and primed for a 2027 release. However, an actual continuation remains unconfirmed. I don't want to say the word reboot because I want you guys coming back. Reboot insinuates that it's going to be new cast. Bree Turner: We'll just call it continuation. Joe Deckelmeier: So in the continuation, where do you guys want to see that go? You want that to be the 15 years after the show ended? Or that in between that 20-year time time jump? Is that what you guys want to see? Bitsie Tulloch: We stopped airing in 2017. So say there was a continuation that was greenlit and it started airing in 2027, then we're really only dealing with a 10-year gap. That's not that bad. Rumors of a Grimm reboot began surfacing in 2025, when it was reported a movie remake of the series was in the works at Peacock. According to the report, series creators Jim Kouf and David Greenwalt were attached as executive producers, but with no word on whether it would be taking place in the same universe as the TV series. There have been no further updates about the project, making it unclear if it's still in development, or what direction the series could take if it really is set to return at some point. As the actors insinuate, now would be the perfect time for a Grimm continuation to be announced. The 10-year gap, while long, isn't necessarily lengthy, especially when compared to other TV continuations that have happened in recent years. One of the most potent examples is Malcolm in the Middle: Life's Still Unfair, a four-episode continuation of the main show released 20 years after the original ended. This makes a 10-year gap conceivable for the fantasy series. Turner and Tulloch appear on board should the series return. The ending of Grimm wrapped up its core storyline, though the final season has been criticized for rushing the finale, making it disappointing for some viewers. But, with 10 years having passed, the series would have an opportunity to chart a steadier course, allowing for a more well-paced finale. Although there's still no confirmation about what the future of the series may hold, if anything at all, the lead actors appear determined to continue should the opportunity arise. Even with the show's return currently unknown, Grimm's lasting impression on the TV landscape makes it ripe for continuation, especially if the original creators are involved.
