'Grenade' explodes outside jewellery store, injuring two teenagers, near German train station

Windows were shattered following the blast this morning in Augsburg, southern Germany. Bomb squads are investigating the explosion. Emergency services were called following reports of the detonation in front of a Turkish jewellery shop near the station at around 3.15am local time. German newspaper Bild reported that the explosion was caused by a hand grenade and injured a 17-year-old girl and 18-year-old man, who suffered ear damage and other minor wounds. The Augsburger Allgemeine, a local paper, said the explosion happened on Bahnhofstrasse, a road filled with shops leading up to the station. Police said both victims of the explosion are Ukrainian. Police are investigating a possible connection to organised crime, with sources telling Bild that the train station wasn't the main target. Speaking to the German Press Agency, a spokesman said that possible damage to a power line had been discovered and bomb disposal experts were at the scene.They added that several improvised explosive and incendiary devices were also discovered after a possible property damage incident.Police said there was no danger to the public and that the incident did not cause a power outage.
