Published Sep 29, 2026, 7:03 PM EDT Mark has been a comic book journalist for over 15 years and has interviewed comic book creators like Gail Simone and Caspar Wijngaard. And when he's not writing, he's working on beating his record of 1,200 comics read in a year. Kyle Rayner is among the greatest Green Lanterns to ever use any power on the emotional spectrum. He’s beyond creative with the constructs he creates and has even impressed the snooty and narcissistic Guardians. One of the many things that puts Kyle Raynor on the elite superhero level is his compassion. He’s kinder than any of the other Green Lanterns and has shown this time and again by doing things like creating temporary legs for a person without them. It's also made him a powerful hero. Rayner's compassion is partly why he’s mastered the entire Emotional Spectrum and can wield the White Lantern’s light for a short amount of time. Maybe having a more “normal” upbringing than the rest of the Lanterns from Earth allowed him to relate better to everyone. Regardless, having access to this ability is how he’s gotten himself out of tough situations. It’s also how the man who killed his girlfriend, Major Force, learned that Rayner isn’t some punk “snowflake.” Kyle Rayner Defeats His Worst Enemy Green Lantern No. 39: Writer: Jeremy Adams; Artists: Szymon Kudranski, Adriana Melo, and Jack Herbert; Colors: Romulo Fajardo, Jr. Back in 1994's Green Lantern No. 55, Major Force killed Kyle Rayner’s girlfriend and stuffed her into her refrigerator. Kyle loved her and, for obvious reasons, her death is something the powerful Green Lantern has never gotten over. That's why, when he learned Cliff was part of the Justice League’s amnesty project, he was furious. Normally, people would agree that some deserve a second chance. However, Major Force proved that he’s not among the people worthy of a mulligan. He was aware that S.H.A.D.E. (the Super Human Advanced Defense Executive) was bankrolling Marktlion the Dominator to create super soldier drones out of innocent people. Of course, this was something Kyle Rayner wasn’t going to let stand. After Major Force gives a sanctimonious speech, Kyle says, “**** YOU,” and attacks him. Eventually, Force gets the upper hand and knocks the Green Lantern down. Arrogantly, Cliff thinks that the fight is over. That’s when Kyle unleashes his White Lantern powers and heals the drones created by Marktlion the Dominator. Then, the White Lantern unleashes a blast on Major Force and removes Clifford’s abilities. When the fight is over, Kyle says he hopes that Major Force's transformation is permanent. He then gives Clifford a warning. He says that if he hears that Force is hurting innocent people again, he will throw him into the nearest star and sleep like a baby. This Isn't Over For Kyle Rayner Considering everything that he's done, it's ironic that Major Force called out the Justice League for imprisoning the villains during DC K.O. However, he may not have been wrong to say that Kyle may have followed his team's orders. There’s a good chance that Kyle may not have fought back against the League in that moment. Nevertheless, there’s no way he would have allowed Major Force to get a chance at amnesty because of what he did to Alex. Kyle Rayner isn’t like other Green Lanterns like Hal Jordan or Guy Gardner, who are prone to lashing out when they're angry. The only person who seems to get under Rayner's skin is Major Force. So, when he says that he will throw Clifford in a star and be okay with it, it’s easy to envision. When it comes to close-to-perfect heroes, Kyle Rayner should be on the list. He’s made mistakes, but who hasn’t? Even Superman and Captain America will admit that they’ve done things that they wish they could take back. Maybe writer Jeremy Adams brings Kyle to a dark place where he does the unthinkable and kills Major Force. If Green Lantern does ever cross that line, it’s easy to guess that no one will shed a tear.
