Grandad, 62, found dead as man charged with murder & family pay tribute to army veteran with a ‘heart of gold’

A MISSING granddad was found dead – as a man has been charged with his murder. Army veteran Stephen Grimmer’s body was found at a property in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, on August 14. The 62-year-old, from nearby Sheffield, was preparing to fly to his second home in Spain when he vanished. Andrew Fowler, 62, has been charged with Stephen’s murder. South Yorkshire Police said they received reports of a missing man at 5.45pm – and at 10.16pm were alerted to the body of a man in a property in George Street, in the Worsborough Bridge area of Barnsley. Emergency crews were scrambled to the scene but Stephen was pronounced dead. Fowler, from Barnsley, was charged with murder and is due to appear at Sheffield Crown Court today. Stephen’s family said: “Stephen was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother who made us all who we are today. “He would go out of his way to help anyone and was liked by everyone who knew him. Most read in The Sun “He lived for holidays with his family and had planned on travelling to Spain the evening that he was tragically killed. His second home was Gibraltar and held some of his best memories. “Stephen was proud of his army service in the Duke of Wellington regiment and the friends he made in the service were brothers to him. “He loved his body art, as his face tattoos prove, and although he could often look quite intimidating, he was really as soft as a brush and had a heart of gold. “We are now asking for privacy as we try to come to terms with the loss of Stephen, who was taken from us far too soon.”
