SportHorse Racing GRAND National legend Rachael Blackmore has been back riding on the gallops – following the birth of her son Bowie. Trainer Henry de Bromhead, who saddled Blackmore’s iconic 2021 Aintree winner Minella Times, said it was ‘great’ to have his old ally back at the yard. Blackmore, who announced her retirement from racing last year, looked like she didn’t miss a beat having swapped her silks for nappies. She recently opened up on how she has found motherhood with husband and current jockey Brian Hayes since welcoming little Bowie in May. Good news is that while she was used to early mornings as a jockey, she hasn’t had too many middle-of-the-night wake ups since becoming a mum. Blackmore, 37, said: “He’s sleeping through the night, which we’re very, very thankful for – both Brian and I. “My friends are all very jealous! But yeah, he’s doing really well and we’re very lucky.” Asked how she has juggled motherhood and her life since leaving racing, the former Gold Cup winner joked: “I still don’t know what I’m going to do when I grow up. “But I’m pretty busy at the moment looking after Bowie, so that’ll keep me busy for next while.” Most read in Horse Racing While Blackmore has had her hands full at home, husband Brian has been banging in some big winners on the track. He built up a brilliant relationship with mare Zanoosh which culminated in a poignant victory in the Grade 1 Honeysuckle Mares Novice Hurdle last April. He’s also picked up a number of handy rides for Willie Mullins, firing in recent winners such as Are You Around for the Closutton boss. Comment now
