GPT-6 Astra made amazing progress on Minecraft, until a creeper blew up its chest and it spiralled into sadness

Published Sep 16, 2026, 11:12 AM EDT Simon is a Computer Science BSc graduate who has been writing about technology since 2014, and using Windows machines since 3.1. After working for an indie game studio and acting as the family's go-to technician for all computer issues, he found his passion for writing and decided to use his skill set to write about all things tech. Since beginning his writing career, he has written for many different publications such as WorldStart, Listverse, and MakeTechEasier. However, after finding his home at MakeUseOf in February 2019, he would eventually move on to its sister site, XDA, to bring the latest and greatest in Windows, Linux, and DIY electronics. A creeper blew up its unprotected chest, wiping out its valuables in a few seconds. Shaken, the model panicked and spent hours quietly farming potatoes instead of questing. There are some arguments that LLMs act too human, and after this incident, I'm inclined to agree. OpenAI's newest and most powerful model, GPT-6 Astra, was making amazing progress during a Minecraft playthrough; however, that all came crashing down after a creeper blew up its chest full of valuables, causing the AI to spiral into sadness and resort to endlessly farming potatoes. For the first time, GPT-6 Astra felt a pain only Minecraft players know And it hit the AI hard As spotted by Tom's Hardware, user @ValsAI on X posted a report on a stream showing GPT-6 Astra playing Minecraft. The AI made incredible progress, such as making its own blaze farm to harvest blaze rods, something that only advanced Minecraft players know how to do. Unfortunately, all its progress came crashing down when a creeper blew up its unprotected chest of valuables, destroying its contents in a few seconds. After the incident, GPT-6 Astra seemed to grow frustrated and paranoid about the situation. It reprimanded itself to carry critical items with the 'keep inventory' option toggled on, and not to leave chests unguarded. It then began watching for further creeper attacks, at one point mistaking sugarcane for one (noting "GREEN tall thing ahead was SUGARCANE, NOT creeper!"). However, the damage was already done. GPT-6 Astra had been dissuaded from its quest, spending the next few hours "doing essentially nothing but farming potatoes." It's okay, GPT-6 Astra; we've all been there.
