Govt.’s ‘reckless decisions’ throwing Education Dept. into disarray, alleges Jagan

Chandrababu Naidu and HRD Minister N. Lokesh of throwing the Education Department into disarray through their “reckless decisions.”Reacting to the alleged use of force by the police against those protesting against the shifting of the Government Tribal Residential School at Marikavalasa in Visakhapatnam, Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy said the crackdown was intended to suppress their voices.Unfortunately, the police behaved rudely with the former Deputy CM, P. Pushpa Sreevani, as she spearheaded the protests along with other leaders, and placed some of them under house arrest, he said.The YSRCP chief said parents of students and tribal organisations had been protesting against the shifting of the school since August 20, but the government lacked the patience to at least listen to their objections.During the tenure of the former Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, seven Gurukulamsbeen established under the School of Excellence concept on the advice of renowned educationists, including Chukka Ramaiah., he said The objective was to provide quality education to ST students from Class VIII to Intermediate and prepare them for admissions to prestigious institutions such as NITs and IITs. Qualified teachers were appointed and incentives given to ensure quality coaching, as a result of which tribal students could secure seats in the above institutions, Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy recalled.Further, the infrastructure in Gurukulams was improved through Nadu-Neduprogramme and the quality of education strengthened through online coaching and interactive platforms. Now, the government was forcibly shifting students from schools that were functioning well, thereby putting them to hardship, he alleged.“It is not right to weaken and dismantle the Schools of Excellence established with such a concept. The government must review its decision, listen to the objections of the students and their parents, and allow those children to study wherever they wish to continue their education,” Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy added.
