Government summons Meta executives again over PM Modi's Facebook postPM मोदींची Gen Z फ्रेम अन् मध्यरात्री सेल्फी VideoThe Central government has once again summoned senior executives of US tech giant Meta Platforms after its Facebook platform briefly restricted a post by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last week, a senior government official said on Thursday. The post in question was a video message by the Prime Minister that was first uploaded on Instagram and later shared on Facebook. While the post remained accessible on Instagram, it was temporarily restricted on Facebook before being restored. Meta had earlier attributed the incident to an inadvertent error."We have asked Meta to come in at the highest level and explain what is happening," S. Krishnan, Secretary in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), said on Thursday. He did not specify which company executives had been asked to appear.Krishnan said Meta had informed Indian authorities that it has introduced new protocols for accounts belonging to prominent public figures to prevent similar incidents from recurring. Meta India did not immediately respond to Reuters' request for comment on Thursday. The video, posted by Modi on July 23, was his first public address on the widespread student protests over the alleged NEET paper leak that eventually led to the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday. The post has garnered more than 404 million views on Instagram. The latest summons marks another instance of the Modi government scrutinising major technology companies over content moderation and platform-related issues. India is Facebook's largest market by number of users.- EndsPublished By: Prateek ChakrabortyPublished On: Jul 30, 2026 17:22 IST
