Government intervenes as shipping shocks expose container vulnerability

In a significant move to bolster domestic manufacturing, the Indian government has stepped in to address vulnerabilities in the shipping container sector. This initiative comes after recent shipping shocks highlighted weaknesses in container quality. On July 3, the first product of the ₹10,000 crore container manufacturing scheme unveiled in the Union Budget was revealed, marking a milestone with an India-made EXIM container built by DCM Shriram Group for Maersk, which also placed an order for 1,000 more. This move not only aims to enhance self-reliance but also to secure the nation's shipping infrastructure against future shocks.
