Google Home is one of the most user-friendly smart home ecosystems, and Google has built out an extensive collection of cameras, speakers, and displays. That positions them as great gifts to expand someone’s smart home. It’s pretty common to get one or two smart home devices and call it a day, but ecosystems like Google Home begin to come alive when there are several devices working in harmony with each other. For instance, you can start out with the Google Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen), as many do. It makes A/C and heat controls easy, and even saves you money along the way. But adding something like the Google Home Speaker with Gemini built-in means you get even more control of your home’s indoor environment. You could go a step further and add a Google Nest Cam (indoor or outdoor) or a Google Nest Doorbell, whether wired or battery. It’s a bit pricier, but I love the Google Nest Cam with Floodlight as a smart home gift option for someone, since it provides more utility. In any case, adding a couple more foundational pieces to your smart home makes it more useful. And as Google adds features with Gemini for Home, users get access to smart alerts and notifications that those cameras didn’t provide a year or two ago, all within the Google Home app. Where to start If you’re gifting for someone who doesn’t have the beginnings of a smart home setup, Google’s Nest products are a good start. You could start with the Google Home Speaker, depending on their needs. If they like listening to music and want a smart home assistant at the ready, Google’s latest speaker delivers. The Google Home Speaker has a 360-degree speaker that throws audio in every direction, filling the room. It controls other devices as that smart home fills out, and it can even act as part of a stereo setup for the Google TV Streamer. Right now, the Google Home Speaker is at its lowest price on Best Buy, sitting at $79.99 – $20 off. It comes in some great colorways, too, like Berry and Jade. Of course, there’s Porcelain and Hazel for more toned-down looks. Another great smart home starter gift is the Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen) or Nest Thermostat. The difference between the two comes down to look and capabilities, but both work very well. The Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen) works with the majority of HVAC systems and converts them into one manageable system through the Google Home app. Over time, it learns your heating and cooling habits to form better schedules that save you money and stress. Right now, the Nest Learning Thermostat (4th) gen is down to $219 from $279 at Best Buy – $60 off. That’s the best price we’ve seen from the store, and it’s a good deal overall. Best Buy is also offering a couple of bundles if you want to go further. You can add Nest Cams to your cart with the Nest Learning Thermostat for $100 off the order. If you want to bundle a couple of items into a gift for someone –or yourself – that’s the way to go. Of course, you can’t go wrong with the Nest Doorbell cameras (wired or battery). Go for the battery edition if you’re limited on wiring options or want to use it at an apartment. Wired is the better choice for homes, since it makes 24/7 recording possible for more security. You can also check out Best Buy’s other offers on Google’s smart home products. It might be worth bookmarking as deals appear during Black Friday.
