Google pushed a mysterious app to the Play Store; here’s what it actually does

Sign in to your Android Police account Over the weekend, a new Google app popped up in the Play Store, and it left some puzzled. Android Pulse was first noticed by 9to5Google. It appeared as an available update with a totally blank app icon, four blank app panels, and the description, “This app facilitates rule distribution for anomaly detection in critical system resource consumption by the Android operating system and installed applications.” For most people, that explanation did not clear up much. What Android Pulse does Some saw an opportunity for a joke, with one reviewer writing: “I'm glad this app helps me maintain my pulse. I had struggles maintaining a pulse without it, but now that it has been released, my pulse has been present pretty universally.” What Android Pulse actually does is monitor apps and facets of Android to make sure that they’re not improperly taking up too many resources. It runs in the background, taking stock of what background apps are up to, analyzing battery drain, and otherwise checking on anything acting badly. Nothing to do on the user end The functions are not new, but their visibility is. It was noted on APKMirror back in March. There’s nothing for you to do should the app appear on your phone. Just know that it’s there to improve the Android experience.
