It has the refined round dial, the silicone strap and that familiar Pixel feel. But the Pixel Watch 5 is all about what’s inside. There are a bunch of exciting upgrades Google has packed in this year. Gemini is now woven in more deeply, the GPS is noticeably more accurate, and Google is also bringing a personalised fitness coaching along with some new tools for keeping tabs on your health.A lot of it looks promising, but there is plenty to try out. Give us a few days and we will tell you everything you need to know about the real-world experience. But for now, here’s a quick first hands-on look at the Pixel Watch 5 and everything it promises to put right on your wrist.OneGemini now sits right at the heart of the Pixel Watch 5 experience. Google says its AI can handle tasks directly from the wrist, while proactive suggestions can turn multi-step actions into simpler one-tap interactions. Some of that AI processing happens on-device too, so the response of Gemini will feel snappier. TwoUnder the hood, you have the Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 Accelerated platform powering the apps, features and AI load. Google says the watch gets 50 per cent more RAM and a 12 per cent CPU boost, making overall performance up to 20 per cent faster than before.ThreeOne of the biggest upgrades in the Pixel Watch 5 this time is navigation. According to Google, the new GPS system in the Pixel Watch 5 delivers twice the accuracy of the previous generation. It uses satellite data, 3D building models, weather information and atmospheric corrections to make route tracking more accurate, especially in challenging environments.FourThe gym bros and fitness enthusiasts can now treat the Pixel Watch 5 as a fitness coach. Kind of. The Pixel Watch 5 comes with Google Health Coach powered by Gemini. It can help you create personalised strength workouts based on your goals and guide you through them step by step. It also looks at things like your sleep and heart-rate variability to understand how well you’ve recovered and tailor its recommendations accordingly.FiveWhile Health Coach helps you stay on track with your workouts, the Pixel Watch 5 also has Health Guardian to keep a closer eye on your health. It can provide monthly summaries covering blood pressure trends, sleep-breathing quality and insulin-resistance trends. Insulin resistance trend is particularly unique and new. According to Google, the idea is to help you spot changes over time rather than just looking at individual readings.SixOn the safety side, the Pixel Watch 5 gets a new feature that can potentially help rescue you during a health emergency. Google says the watch can detect severe drops in oxygen saturation and, if it detects a breathing emergency and you’re unresponsive, it can automatically contact emergency services and share your location.SevenGoogle’s Pixel Watch has always had an edge when it comes to sleep tracking, and with the Watch 5, the company has improved it by 15 per cent. The watch can track your heart rate and movement while you sleep, while Smart Wake can spot lighter moments in your sleep cycle and gently wake you before your scheduled alarm.EightYou can easily check your health stats, notifications and other information on the Watch 5 display. It gets a new 3,000-nit domed Actua 360 screen, which according to Google is bright enough to stay readable even when you’re using the watch outside in direct sunlight.NineWhat about the battery? Well, Google says the 41mm Pixel Watch 5 can last up to 30 hours, while the larger 45mm model can stretch that to 40 hours. It also supports fast charging, so you can quickly top it up when needed.TenThe Pixel Watch 5 comes in two sizes, 41mm and 45mm, so you can pick the one that suits your wrist and style. Google has also added new colour options, including Fog, Canyon and Olive, along with a Pyrite option and a Stephen Curry Edition.- EndsPublished By: Divya BhatiPublished On: Aug 19, 2026 19:32 IST
