Google made the My Pixel app actually match your Pixel 11’s color

Adamya Sharma / Android AuthorityTL;DR Google has updated its My Pixel app for the rollout of the Pixel 11 series. The app now features multiple icon colors that reflect the color of your actual Pixel 11 handset. My Pixel is also picking up the search function we saw in development earlier this summer. Google’s Pixel 11 series is finally in stores, and these phones are just all about color — and we’re not just talking about all the colors you can show off with the new HiLight LED, either. While every generation mixes things up, this year’s Pixel color offerings have left us with a lot to feel happy about. After you’ve chosen your favorite Pixel 11 color, you’d better get used to seeing it everywhere, including the My Pixel app.The My Pixel app is a great way to get to know some of the features of your new phone — or check back in with it a few months later to remind you about all the cool ones you’ve forgotten about. So far, though, the app has had the same look for everybody. With the launch of the Pixel 11 family, that’s finally changing. Open up your app drawer on a Pixel 11 handset, and rather than finding the My Pixel app’s familiar blue icon, you’ll now see the app’s icon reflecting the actual color of your phone:AssembleDebug / Android AuthorityWhether you’ve got a Pixel 11 Pro Fold in Olive, or a Pro XL in Canyon, the icon for My Pixel is able to adapt to match your handset. This really doesn’t impact usability one iota, but we’ve got to hand it to Google for even bothering with a subtle change like this — it just makes sense, ensuring that an app called “My” Pixel actually bothers to look like your Pixel.Sadly, though, this is just one more Pixel 11 feature that’s not trickling down to the rest of the family — at least not that we’ve seen yet. With all older Pixels, the My Pixel app keeps its existing blue icon, and doesn’t bother to actually match your phone. That’s a shame, because this feels like a relatively low-effort way to spread a little more Pixel joy with even owners of legacy Pixel hardware. This one’s also hardly a big selling point, so why not bring it to older Pixels? With as many little features as Google gets around to adding with each new Pixel series, it can be tricky to remember exactly where you need to head in the app to learn about them, so this search tool streamlines access by digging through them all to find the most relevant. Both My Pixel search and the app’s color-matching icon on Pixel 11 phones are available now.Thank you for being part of our community.
