See more Daily Mail on Google - save us as a Preferred Source Published: 16:57 EDT, 17 September 2026 | Updated: 16:57 EDT, 17 September 2026 A golden retriever was seen attempting to play with an intruder who broke into his San Diego home.The gentle pup, named Nash, has been dubbed the worst guard dog in the world for his playful response to the trespasser last month.Video taken inside the home shows the unidentified suspect breaking in and making himself at home, including taking a nap and helping himself to food from the fridge.But instead of barking or alerting anyone, four-year-old Nash chose to approach the intruder with a toy in his mouth.The clip shows Nash try three times to entice the trespasser into a game, clutching the toy and wagging his tail.Home owner Dante Rowley told the LA Times Nash usually barks at new visitors but once they get inside, 'he just thinks it’s time to play.'Rowley and his fiancée Stephanie Calderon saw the situation unfold while they were on a flight home from Chicago. The Ring app on their phone notified the couple and when they saw the stranger inside their house, they contacted police. Four-year-old golden retriever Nash was too kind to the potential robber. Instead of barking or defending his home, he just approached the intruder with a wiggling tail and a toy to play Nash might not win an award for being the most frightening guard dog but rather the friendliest out there Nash's owners Dante Rowley and Stephanie Calderon were alerted to the intruder in their San Diego home after their Ring camera sent them a notification'We just think he was trying to get out of the heat,' Rowley said of the suspect, who did not steal anything besides some food while in the home.Video shows a police drone appearing inside the house and chasing the intruder out before a troop of nine police officers arrived.But again Nash did not seem to mind the officers who were equipped with machine guns as they entered through the front door. The good boy greeted them just as kindly as the prowler.Video footage also shows the moments police arrested the suspect in the backyard.While Nash might not get an award for the most frightening guard dog of all time, it is safe to say he is the friendliest out there.The Daily Mail has contacted the San Diego Police Department for comment.
