The gold seized from the passenger | Photo Credit: Special Arrangement The Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) seized gold bars and ornaments weighing 1.369 kg valued at ₹2 crore from a passenger at Perambur railway station on Sunday (August 16, 2026).The seizure was made during a routine security check when Train No. 16022 (Mysuru-Chennai) arrived at platform 1. An RPF and GRP team noticed a passenger alighting from the front General Service (GS) coach with a grey shoulder bag.When the passenger was approached for verification, the individual allegedly attempted to flee. Security personnel, however, detained the passenger and conducted a search of the bag. The search led to the recovery of gold bars and ornaments without valid statutory documents. The passenger was taken to the RPF office for inquiry, following which the person and the seized gold were handed over to the Income Tax Department.The Income Tax Department has taken custody of the passenger and the seized articles and is conducting further investigation.
