The legendary kaiju, first presented to the world back in 1954, has made an epic comeback to the mainstream after the very successful Godzilla Minus One, a Japanese movie that truly portrayed what the creature is all about. Over the years, the symbolism behind Godzilla, which serves to represent the chaos and aftermath of nuclear war, had simply been used as a fun monster, but fans are now being treated to some great productions that live up to its legacy. Of course, while the symbolism behind Godzilla is a lot deeper than most would expect, there’s no harm in seeing the kaiju as the huge and entertaining monster that it is. Fans of the franchise and the creature are now receiving a brand-new RPG centered around it. The information was revealed by the official Godzilla website. A new Kickstarter project, which has been fully funded, will bring the iconic kaiju to life in a TTRPG setting, allowing you to take on the role of a human as Godzilla ravages Earth. Officially called Godzilla: The Roleplaying Game, the new RPG focused on the Godzilla series is inspired by the Kai-Sei era from IDW Publishing. The game is set in a world where humanity needs to adapt to the fact that kaiju roam around Earth and are a constant threat to their very existence. Godzilla: The Roleplaying Game is a card-based tabletop game that will put you in control of a character who can be of different classes. You can, for instance, be a Soldier, a Thief, or a Scientist. In total, there are 12 character classes. On top of that, there are several different weapons and tools to help you and your party against the kaiju, as well as other threats, like mutants, and perhaps even opposing humans. In addition to Godzilla itself, the tabletop role-playing game also features several other iconic kaiju from the Godzilla series, like Mothra, Megalon, Rodan, Destoroyah, and King Ghidorah. The game even has rules for you to create your own kaiju. There is an element of randomness in this tabletop experience, as player characters will draw cards from a deck and, with these cards, be able to resolve actions and more. Players will be sent on different types of missions and race against the Crisis Clock mechanic, which is described as a “ticking time bomb” for a major event. It is not unlike the ticking clock from the remarkable horror-based board game Eldritch Horror. As was mentioned, Godzilla: The Roleplaying Game has been fully funded on Kickstarter, and because of it, the project is no longer accepting any new pledges. Even so, you may want to keep the game’s release on your radar, as it will be coming to local game stores after the Kickstarter fulfillment this fall. This new Godzilla-packed tabletop game is extremely promising and may become your next RPG obsession.
