‘Godzilla Minus Zero’ trailer: Godzilla faces a terrifying new threat as Ghidorah looms

Set in 1949, two years after the events of the previous film, the story follows Japan as it attempts to rebuild before another catastrophic threat emerges.The footage confirms that Godzilla has survived and regenerated after his apparent destruction in Godzilla Minus One. The monster returns larger and more ferocious, while the trailer introduces a new kaiju threat that has sent fans into immediate speculation about King Ghidorah, the three-headed monster who has repeatedly served as Godzilla’s most formidable extraterrestrial adversary.Ghidorah has not been officially confirmed by Toho, but the trailer drops some conspicuous clues. A distinctive roar can be heard near the end of the footage, while strange blue waves appear around aircraft in several shots. Fans have connected those visual effects to Ghidorah’s previous depictions and to the monster’s long-standing association with the name “Monster Zero”.The returning cast includes Ryunosuke Kamiki as Koichi Shikishima and Minami Hamabe as Noriko Shikishima, alongside Hidetaka Yoshioka as Kenji Noda, Yuki Yamada as Shiro Mizushima and Sakura Ando as Sumiko Ota. New additions include Min Tanaka as biologist Kanji Murakami, Masami Nagasawa as weather forecaster Makoto Aoyama and Jun Kunimura as Dr. Ogata.Yamazaki returns as writer, director and visual-effects supervisor. Godzilla Minus Zero also carries a technical first for the franchise, having been filmed specifically for IMAX and becoming the first Japanese production shot for the format. The trailer itself shifts into the expanded 1.43:1 IMAX aspect ratio during its final stretch, giving Godzilla considerably more screen real estate for his latest bout of urban destruction.The film is positioned as the conclusion to this particular story, with its trailer delivering the ominous line: “There is no third time.
