Considering Godzilla is one of the only games going up against Rockstar's juggernaut next month, it's hard to believe it's just a coincidence. The demo itself is small, with just a 4 GB download on Steam (which is currently the only place to play the demo). In the 15 minutes I spent messing around in the battle arenas, I enjoyed a quick online spar against a King Ghidorah player, which ran very smoothly. It's a straightforward slice of the game, and enough to show that the footing is solid. GTA 6 And Godzilla Serve Different Audiences, But Both Are Hard To Resist The Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered Demo Lets You Spar Online For A Limited Time Speaking to a representative from Atari at Portland Gaming Retro Expo where Godzilla was recently playable, they explained how proud they were to have the Eugene, Oregon-based Pipeworks, handling the remaster. And that they felt incredibly lucky to have caught the attention of all the necessary license holders to let the studio that created the original build on their foundation, and that familiarity shows how player-friendly this remastered iteration is once you go head-to-head. Many of those working on the remaster also worked on the original game, and there is a fundamental understanding of what fans want from a modern Godzilla title. Retro fun has coupled with accessibility to create something that is truly pick up and play. Instead of microtransactions or limited-time battle passes, the game uses a classic unlock system for monsters, locations, and gallery items. All twelve Kaiju have single player campaigns, and the designs have been updated for continuity across the roster. Throughout the weekend, showgoers of all ages clashed with each other at Atari's booth which featured the demo, confirming the mass appeal Godzilla still has with nearly forty films behind the character. And now that demo is in the hands of everyone, with a way to test the head-to-head fighting mode with Gigan, King Ghidorah, and Godzilla, alongside the score-attack demolition mode. You can try it for yourself or with other Godzilla fans, but only for a limited time until October 27.
