Godflesh’s Justin Broadrick Has Another Phoebe Bridgers Collaboration On The Way

Last month, Phoebe Bridgers unleashed her long-awaited, breathtaking Punisher followup Lost Weekend, whose list of collaborators raised eyebrows. The most interesting contributor was probably Justin Broadrick of Godflesh and Jesu. The industrial metal bandleader spoke of the experience in a new interview with The Guardian and revealed that a new collaboration with Bridgers is on the way.The article points out that Broadrick remixed Bridgers' boygenius bandmate Julien Baker's song "Favor" back in 2021, while Bridgers contributed backing vocals. More recently, he received an email from Bridgers about doing some "Jesu-style stuff" on Lost Weekend. "I thought I was being scammed," he said. He played guitar on the exalted love song "Bobby," as well as "Best Dressed," a hidden track only available on physical editions. When asked if he was intimidated to work with Bridgers, he answered, "The fact that she was so personable and we were immediate friends was brilliant for me, but I was overwhelmed by how big she is. I was literally sending music to Taylor Swift's personal engineer! I'm catapulted into this huge, mainstream world, and I'm like, 'How the fuck am I here?!'" Then he revealed the upcoming collab: "She wanted me to play guitar and bass on a song for a film. She said to me a few months ago, 'I'm just going to keep hitting you up.'"Speaking of films, The Hollywood Reporter just published a feature on Primetime, the upcoming Lance Oppenheim picture inspired by To Catch A Predator that features Bridgers. THR says Bridgers plays a decoy tasked with portraying both boys and girls. Bridgers has known Oppenheim since before breaking into fame. The director told THR:I've always known her to have an incredibly deep, almost baritone speaking voice, and I was then amazed that someone who had such a deep speaking voice could produce this beautiful, angelic singing voice. With how she's able to use her voice in different environments, I kept thinking, "That's exactly what a decoy would do." I remember texting her like, "This is so random, but I think you are perfect for this part," and she responded, "I don't really act, I've never done it, I don't know how."Watch the trailer below, which features a brief Bridgers cameo.
